International programs

The University of Sydney engages with overseas universities, governments, businesses and other organisations through its International Institute.

The International Institute is comprised of the following offices and institutes:

Office of the DVC International

The Office of the DVC International provides management support to the DVC International in the coordination of international portfolio activities such as strategic planning, marketing, resource management and finances. The Office also has responsibility for the development of new initiatives to support the University’s international strategy.

The Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP)

The Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP) initiates, develops and manages multidisciplinary research projects and international leadership programs that support the international engagement priorities of the University. RIAP also plays a role in supporting the foreign policy outreach activities of the Australian government and organisations, and the capacity building needs of countries in the Asia Pacific region.

Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute provides Chinese language and culture classes and programs of the highest academic standard, to enhance the ability of Australian academics, members of business and local communities, government and educational administrators, and other professionals to engage effectively with their Chinese counterparts.

The University of Sydney World Events

The University of Sydney World Events is a set of broad-based initiatives aimed at achieving a major advance in the University's internationalisation and international engagements as a top ranked world university. They are aligned with the key priorities and achievement areas set out in the international strategy of the University. We coordinate overseas graduations, alumni functions and other activities to build relationships with foreign institutions and business.

International Scholarship Development Office

The International Scholarship Development Office is responsible for coordinating engagement with scholarship and fellowship programs which have an international focus.

Our role is to liaise with external stakeholders such as Australian and foreign government departments or other education-related bodies, to establish and develop new funding opportunities for students and academics. Our office also provides advice for University employees on scholarship and external funding programs to further international collaboration.

Europe Office

The Europe Office supports the University’s international strategy through the development of partnerships and new initiatives in Europe. The office provides a central point of contact for our international counterparts and University relations within the region.

Australia Africa Network

The Australia Africa Network is a multi-disciplinary network that supports the University’s international strategy through the development of partnerships and new initiatives with higher education institutions, international agencies, governments and the business community in both Africa and Australia.

Americas Office

The Americas Office supports the University’s international strategy through the development of partnerships and new initiatives for the United States, Canada and Latin America. The office provides a central point of contact for our international counterparts and University relations within the region.
